Starting from August 4, Norway’s data protection authority, Datatilsynet, is implementing a three-month prohibition on surveillance-based behavioural advertising conducted by Facebook and Instagram. The DPA has expressed its belief that Meta, the parent company of these platforms, engages in unlawful profiling practices. Failure to adhere to this ban could result in a daily fine of NOK1 million imposed on the company. It is important to note that the ban does not restrict the operation of Facebook or Instagram in Norway, nor does it apply to behavioural advertising directed at users who have provided valid consent.
