Nigeria High Court Sides With Newspaper Columnist In Privacy Case

According to The Niche, the Federal High Court of Nigeria granted a newspaper columnist NGN3 million as compensation. This decision came after it was revealed that an account was opened in his name at United Bank for Africa without his authorization. The judge ruled that the bank must pay the NGN3 million penalty because they had made his existing account dormant and transferred NGN50,000 to the fraudulent account. The columnist argued that this action violated his “fundamental right to privacy,” protected under Section 37 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
